We are proud as punch to announce that Honiton Community Theatre Company’s production of Urinetown the Musical at The Beehive has been nominated for two regional NODA awards:
- Best Musical Production
- Innovative Production
The annual nominations highlight excellence in a production and NODA reps see hundreds of productions every year. To be nominated alone is an achievement. In the past, Honiton Community Theatre Company have won 2 regional NODA awards for Jack and the Beanstalk and Over the Sledge, so this is their first nomination for a musical. The awards dinner where the winners are announced will be held in Bristol on 4th March.
The company worked hard to produce Urinetown last summer. Considered a risky choice for sales targets, it certainly paid off creatively with audiences laughing and enthralled by the tale of Bobby, the Urine Good Company and a little bit of Hope. This year, the group will be producing Annie as their summer musical (details soon to be announced).
The director of Urinetown, Alex Jackson commented:
“It’s great to be recognised by NODA for the hard work and effort put in by everyone. These productions really are a team effort and every piece of the jigsaw is vital for making it a success. Who’d have thought a show called Urinetown could be a hit?”
Urinetown premiered on Broadway back in 2001 and won the coveted Tony Award for Best Musical the following spring. It was performed at The Beehive last summer and featured actors from the local community including lots of youth members of the group.
