At the prestigious 2016 South West National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) Awards Dinner in Bristol the Honiton Community Theatre Company collected the prestigious “District Achievement” award for producing the best show seen by the district NODA rep. The ‘District Achievement Award’ was for our Christmas variety show tour the ‘Over the Sledge’, a festive incarnation of our popular summer outing the ‘End of the Pier’.
The award was one of many presented that evening by the South West branch of NODA meaning that HCTC triumphed as a member of 300 other amateur theatre societies across the region. The glamorous event was attended by cast members from ‘Over the Sledge’ and the award was collected by HCTC Chairperson Barbara Simmonds with Jaime Crudge and Dave Pickerell who both took part in the show.
The ‘Over the Sledge’ Variety show contained a vibrant mix of song, dance and comedy sketch topped off with a delicious festive feast and enough Christmas jumpers to make even the coldest-hearted of scrooges melt.
Barbara Simmonds HCTC’s chairperson said:
“It was a real privilege to receive the award and everyone was very proud when we announced it. We don’t set out to win awards but simply to have lots of fun providing great quality local entertainment and this award is in recognition of our members achieving that”.
Shaun Bonetta Vice Chair commented:
“It’s been great to receive the award in a month of such positive news. Our annual pantomime ‘Peter Pan’ sold 96% of tickets so we had a fantastic run with that show too. Our members’ hard work is really paying off and its lovely that NODA have acknowledged that with this award.”
Our next production will be a modern version of Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’ set on a paradise island. Rehearsals are well underway and the cast can’t wait to get the show on stage and on the road. As well as touring to three village hall venues, The Beehive engagement for Twelfth Night is on the 21st and 22nd May.
